My parents are from New Orleans and Mardi Gras beads were my earliest jewelry. Back then, the beads were made of colorful glass from Czechoslovakia and many of the necklaces were quite beautiful. Those collector’s items are the inspiration for the fun and festive coral and glass necklaces I am currently designing. Come see them at White Linen Night in the Heights in Houston on August 7th!

About Blue Crab Studio

Blue Crab Studio is a creative-arts firm specializing in the design and creation of jewelry and coastal accessories that celebrate the beauty of seashells and the pleasures of seaside living. The studio's name was inspired by a childhood of summers that Karla Cisneros spent crabbing along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts.

Seashells have been treasured for their beauty ever since our early ancestors  first became aware of them. For tens of thousands of years, seashells have especially inspired and captured the imagination of artists. Karla Cisneros is one of them. Her designs interpret connections between people and the sea, explore the natural beauty of shells and other sea life, and reflect her respect for the natural world.

Karla earned a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and a Master's Degree in Architecture from Rice University..
